What passes for news!

This from a morning headline:

“Steve Jobs was seen leaving the Stanford Cancer Center in Paolo Alto. Apple shares are sliding in the pre-market.”

How is that for cause and effect. Besides, I kid you not, that is how they spelt Palo. Clearly written by someone who knows some Italian perhaps!

All this chatter about state pension plans is grossly one-sided. Most people who receive (or expect to receive) state pensions and benefits gave up a lot of income during their working years. This distinction is quite obvious when you compare state salaries to corporate salaries. To accuse those receiving state benefits as fat cats assumes that the two salaries were the same. The difference is between one set of people who gave up current income for future benefits and another set who chose current income instead.
